Week 3: 4 - 10 Oct 2010

Good progress this week:

We got some more detailed information from several Kathmandu hospitals which claim to be able and willing to treat Ghane. The question remains how we distinguish between the ones that are intrigued by a couple of Westerners willing to put down payments toward their hospital, and the ones who are sincere. What I note is that quite a few of the doctors that we contact via the hospitals' emails, respond back via their private emails.

But we have good confidence in Dr. Pant, and after checking with Madan in Kathmandu how the translation is going, we're told that it is ready, and he has an appointment with the Paropakar hospital this Sunday at noon!

This is fantastic news - now, there finally seems to be a "hole through," as we say in Danish!

I am on stand-by for Sunday, as I really should be getting my plane ticket and visa as soon as possible next week.

What's more, I also talked with my boss this week - I wanted to wait, but he could definitely sense that I haven't been myself lately. He completely supports what we're doing, and simply asked me to plan around my travels which might be already in 1½ weeks.

This week, we went out and purchased a few clothing items that can be put on without going over the head, as well as diapers and bottles. It was weird - after all, we could be getting the terrible response that Ghane died recently.

However, she has lived to be about 20 months despite her condition, inactivity and lack of treatment, love, care and stimulation, so we can't help thinking that this little girl must have some life strength in her. Also, Line Holm Nielsen told us that Ghane followed them so vividly and intensely with her eyes during their visits, and Line's impression was that she was definitely more alert than the staff was perhaps hoping, due to their knowledge of not being able to help her further.

We talk further about all the difficult stuff there is to talk about. And I pray. The wait is almost unbearable, and we have probably seen nothing yet.
