5 Nov 2010: Victoria gets her name!

The doctor’s round to all the patients at Annapurna is every morning from around 8.30 a.m.

Approx. 15 doctors and nurses crowd around Ghane and myself in the little room, and we talk about Ghane’s nutrition – she really should start eating solid foods, as she is malnourished from getting formula only – as well as the plan for the coming days.

Then, Dr. Pant asks me which name to put in the hospital files, because they need to register their new little patient – Christian and I just discussed it this morning, and we agreed on Victoria. It’s my favourite girl’s name, and derived from Victory – although she hasn’t won the entire battle yet, Victoria has endured so much in her little life, making the name very appropriate.

And like that, Victoria gets her name – no longer a nameless orphan in the back-room of a government hospital, but a little girl in a child welfare organisation’s custody, about to undergo treatment at one of Nepal’s best private clinics.
